Mr. Jones (who left a comment):
For more than a year, this blog has avoided religious discussion because politics is controversial enough. When we were doing our sweep, a couple of blogs published "You are going to hell if you don't worship like I do" posts, causing us to make that policy.
As a service, we do, and will continue to publish Catholic Citizens Committee press releases (spelled it right that time), in part because we know and respect some of the folks behind it. We won't approve any comments on those press releases.
For the record, I am an opponent of Roe because it is bad constitutional law, not because of the religious implications. I've tried to suggest that religious opponents of Roe start looking for people like me and begin opposing Roe on legal grounds rather than religious grounds which are always demagogued. I think they might win if they did that.
I will be an opponent of amendment 48 because it has implications that the authors either didn't consider or went out of their way to ignore. Legally, I think it is a disaster that would begin happening the minute it became law, far worse than Roe.
This is a Law Blawg without the lawyers, so we always try to think about what will happen with the law, not the religious aspects of both issues.
If someone wants to write on either subject from a legal aspect, their comment will be published. Religious comments won't be published.
