Since today is election day, the most beneficial portion of the day means that no more misleading advertisements will run on the radio and television (until the 2012 Presidential race begins tomorrow morning). The most disingenuous advertisements were those against 47, 49, and 54. Unions spent millions of dollars on ads claiming these measures would not allow firefighters and police officers to get the equipment they need.
Due to this absurd advertisement, the Denver Metro Young Republicans created their own ad campaign in support of these measures.
Colorado's firefighters and teachers have lobbied hard against amendments 47, 49 and 54, which they say will "crush the voices" of firefighters, police, teachers and nurses. One of their ads showed Godzilla stepping on a firehouse.
In response, the Denver Metro Young Republicans says it came up with its own "absurd, dishonest and emotionally manipulative ad."
It features a kitten and says voting against the amendments will make kittens very sad.
"Kittens are soft and fuzzy and cute and perform essential mousing services and provide a sense of warmth and good feeling in our lives. If kittens are sad, they can't do these valuable things," the ad says. "Out-of-state Big Labor wants you to vote against Amendments 47, 49 and 54. But if you do, you'll be making kittens across Colorado sad. Very sad. So sad they just might cry. Don't make Colorado kittens cry. Vote YES on Amendments 47, 49 and 54."
While obviously tongue-in-cheek, this bears as much resemblance to the truth as the union attack advertisements. Follow this link to find pictures of the pro-kitten advertisement.
And remember, there are slightly less than 7 hours left to vote today. If you have not voted yet, please consider doing so.
