House Speaker Andrew Romanoff's TABOR-gutting measure is formally on the ballot. Colorado SAFE is now called Amendment 59. This is a shell game of immense proportions, intended to quash future TABOR spending limits under the guise of a "separate" education spending account. Andrew Romanoff and Cary Kennedy wrote the amendment to fix Amendment 23 (also by Cary Kennedy). This time the fix will be permanent, as Cary Kennedy and Andrew Romanoff will permanently appropriate any TABOR refunds as new play money for the state.
The following is a press release announcing a debate between Cary Kennedy and Penn Pfiffner occuring this weekend in Littleton.
Hello all! The Mighty Penn Pfiffner is going to debate Cary Kennedy this coming Saturday, 9/20, from 9-10 a.m. at the Peak Recreation Center located at 6612 S. Ward St, near Coal Mine and Simms (map link below). Amd. 59 is the so-called Savings Account for Education, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. It will destroy the TABOR amendment, remove all limits on what the state can collect and spend on P-12 public education, eliminate any TABOR tax rebates FOREVER, and free up money in the general fund for other (non-education) spendingWITHOUT HAVING TO ASK FIRST. 59 is a very bad deal for the taxpayers, and a really good deal for special interests. I encourage all of you to forward this email to every taxpayer you know, and to attend the debate on Saturday. Penn is exceedingly polite, well informed, has debated Cary before and will be well prepared - so there won't be any chairs thrown, just good, solid arguments. It should be fun and informative! Bring your neighbors and friends, everyone needs to know just how badly this will blow the top off the state budget, at our expense. And what happened to all that Ref C money????? Now they want more? Here is a mapquest link to a map, it's easy to get to from southwest Denver. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?address=6612%20South%20Ward% 20Street%2C%20&city=Littleton% 2C%20&state=CO&zipcode=80127 REMEMBER, VOTE NO ON 59!P.S. Their side is getting BUCKETS of money from special interests that will benefit if this passes, and we pretty much have no money, so at least show up and give Penn some moral support! And protect your wallet!

Could someone help me contact someone opposed to Amendment 59, the SAFE initiative?
I am writing a newspaper story for The Fort Morgan Times and want to keep it balanced.
It would be very helpful if I talked to someone from Morgan County (i.e. Fort Morgan, Brush or Wiggins) but not necessary.
I'm on a short timeline here.
Thanks,
