I suppose that I do my best thinking at 2 AM. By then, my subconscious has kicked into full throttle and I begin thinking about the implications of something I have written or plan to write.
The LER Project essays are intended to create a menu of options for future discussion and possible inclusion into a future initiative.
As with all menus, some proposals will be mutually exclusive. Some might be excluded because they are too easily demagagued. Some might be just plain bad ideas. Some may be good ideas but step on the toes of potential financial sponsors and thus be rejected. You will very likely see two or more proposals for each problem. Common sense suggests that both can't be adopted.
Readers may have identified problems that I miss and have solutions for those problems. If so, I'd be happy to include them. They may also have alternate solutions to the problems I identify.
This is a big project, but it should be. The legal profession has been operating without adult supervision for decades and its anti-public policies are not single faceted.
